Surviving the Emotional Roller Coaster

Even if you know that getting a divorce is the right thing for you and everyone else involved and even if your divorce is amicable, you will almost inevitably experience a range of emotions as you move through the divorce process. Having an idea of what is ahead and putting an emotional support system in place can help you get through the tough times. Your support system may include trusted friends and/or close relatives, your religious advisors, and a mental health professional. A therapist can provide you with ongoing emotional support as well as advice. Controlling your emotions so you can stay on an even keel is critical when you are going through a divorce so that you are able to make wise decisions about matters that will affect the financial well-being and happiness of both you and your children for years to come. It is also important to remain collected in order to shield your children from the emotional distress you are going through. Though it will be tough at times to control your emotions, remember that you can and will get through your divorce.
